Success for Phoebe at the Tavistock SPOTY Awards

Thursday Evening saw DJC head off to Tavistock College for the annual Tavistock Sports Personality of the Year awards

Last year we had success at these awards with Reuben and Lottie being nominated for their Judo exploits within the year group of year 7 with Reuben subsequently winning the award.

This year was even more special as we had Reuben and Lottie once more nominated this time in Year 8 also this year joined by with Olivia and also this year we had Alanna nominated in year 7

Phoebe was also nominated for the main award within the Primary stage of education.

This year was also special as DJC Vice-President Christine Gallie was the awards special guest and delivered the key note speech to the whole audience about her life and challenges she experienced during her highly successful Judo career.

I myself and Christine's husband Pete(himself a 2nd Dan and successful competitor) attended the VIP reception where Christine had brought many of her medals from her illustrious career which went down very well with all the other people attending the reception.

During the actual show Chris was asked to present the lions share of awards,

Reuben, Lottie, Alanna and Liv all just missed out on taking the top award but were recognised during the ceremony and will be presented with certificates during school assemblies

We were then delighted that Phoebe walked away with the main Primary award and it was lovely to hear the tribute paid to her by her teachers, she has had very busy year taking many medals and various titles and this award recognised this.

Chris's speech was very well received with lots of comments following the ceremony

Its is my aspiration that Judo becomes a regular fixture at this event in the future

Ross
